As a youth in south Florida, and of Cuban-American descent, Joe’s exposure to Latin music and jazz came at a very early age. Starting as a drummer at the age of thirteen, performing with other Florida musicians, he enjoyed the experience of playing in many different venues throughout Miami and Fort Lauderdale. In 1971, Joe began playing the conga drums and other hand percussion instruments. Over the last twenty years, he has had the good fortune to perform in many different musical styles and to record on numerous projects. With a driving passion for the rhythms of the world and a never-ending desire to constantly learn and create, Joe’s expertise and abilities have lead him to participate in numerous live and studio projects. He made his singing debut on the “Cinco de Moio” CD and leads his own Latin jazz quartet, “Joe Garcia & Friends”. In 2004, Joe was honored as KJZZ (91.5 FM) “Percussionist Of The Year”, in Phoenix, Arizona.
